Foreign
November 16, 2008

Imagine living in a strange, dark city for twenty years.
There are some dismal dwellings on the east side
and one of them is yours. On the landing, you hear
your foreign accent echo down the stairs. You think
in a language of your own and talk in theirs.

Then you are writing home. The voice in your head
recites the letter in a local dialect; behind that
is the sound of your mother singing to you,
all that time ago, and now you do not know
why your eyes are watering and what’s the word for this.

You use the public transport. Work. Sleep. Imagine one night
you saw a name for yourself sprayed in red
against a brick wall. A hate name. Red like blood.
It is snowing on the streets, under the neon lights,
as if this place were coming to bits before your eyes.

And in the delicatessen, from time to time, the coins
in your palm will not translate. Inarticulate,
because this is not home, you point at fruit. Imagine
that one of you says Me not know what these people mean.
It like they only go to bed and dream. Imagine that.

Brief Interlude!
November 12, 2008

Well, this is a brief interlude to indicate that I’m alive.

Right now I’m in Macedonia (yes, again). And I’ll be here and in Bulgaria for a week or so, so probably you won’t see any new posts until the end on the following week. But don’t worry, soon you’ll see my comments about some Slovak, Hungarian, Macedonian, Swiss, Belgian and Bulgarian cities… just stay tuned!

Calm in Karlskrona
November 6, 2008

Well, finally the last post both about my Erasmus and Karlskrona Geotag. At least until I go back there, as I said :P.

Calm in Karlskrona from Carlos Hernandez on Vimeo.

The video was recorded here Geotag, just in the junction between the beginning of the outskirts and the center of Karlskrona, which, by the way, is less than 10 minutes away walking from there… one of the advantages of small cities :P

Good bye Karlskrona, I hope to see you soon!

In the (Swedish) Navy
November 4, 2008

Don’t worry, this is almost the last post about Karlskrona Geotag… the last one will be next one, I promise :P.

In the (Swedish) Navy from Carlos Hernandez on Vimeo.

The events from this video happened during the open day of the Royal Swedish Navy, in which you’re allowed to enter inside diverse boats and submarines to see and touch almost everything you want to. It was recorded in the Naval Base of Karlsrona, which is in here Geotag. And the helicopter is real, even if it looks like that :P

Beach in the Outskirts of Karlskrona
November 2, 2008

Slowly I’m arriving to an end for the series of posts about Karlskrona Geotag, at least until I get back there again, in case I do. I doubt I will write anything else, but I have prepared some entries in the videolog. But don’t worry, there won’t be too many :D

This video was recorded in a beach that is on the outskirts, close to the Campus Gräsvik of the Blekinge Institute of Technology, exactly in this point Geotag. A really nice place to relax after a hard day of lectures, hehe.
